Sharp has officially unveiled the new Aquos R11, a flagship smartphone that builds on the strengths of its predecessor while introducing significant upgrades in performance, display technology, camera capabilities, and durability. Designed for users who want premium hardware without compromise, the Aquos R11 combines cutting-edge specifications with a unique feature rarely seen in modern smartphones—it can be safely cleaned using hand soap and alcohol wipes.

The Sharp Aquos R11 features a stunning 6.5-inch Pro IGZO OLED display with a variable 1–240Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3,600 nits.

Brighter and Faster OLED Display

At the front of the Aquos R11 is a 6.5-inch Pro IGZO OLED display featuring a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate that dynamically scales from 1Hz to an ultra-smooth 240Hz. This allows the phone to conserve power during static content while delivering exceptional responsiveness when gaming or scrolling.

Sharp claims the panel reaches a peak brightness of 3,600 nits, making it the brightest display ever fitted to an Aquos smartphone. Even under full-screen white conditions, the display can sustain up to 1,800 nits of brightness, ensuring excellent visibility outdoors. Both the screen and rear panel are protected by durable Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 Power

Under the hood, the Aquos R11 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor, paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X memory and 512GB of ultra-fast UFS 4.1 storage.

The hardware combination positions the Aquos R11 firmly in flagship territory, offering plenty of power for gaming, multitasking, AI-powered applications, and demanding productivity workloads. Unlike the previous generation, however, Sharp has removed support for microSD expansion.

Triple Leica Camera System

Photography is another major focus of the new device. The Aquos R11 features a Leica-branded camera system built around three rear cameras equipped with Leica Hektor optics.

The setup includes:

  • 50.3MP main camera
  • 50.3MP ultra-wide camera
  • 38.5MP telephoto camera

Selfie enthusiasts are also well served thanks to a high-resolution 50.3MP front-facing camera.

Sharp aims to deliver flagship-level imaging across a wide range of shooting scenarios, from landscapes and portraits to low-light photography and zoom shots.

Android 16 and Long-Term Support

The Aquos R11 ships with Android 16 out of the box. Sharp promises three major Android version upgrades alongside five years of security updates, ensuring the device remains secure and up to date well into the future.

Power comes from a 5,100mAh battery, which supports 36W fast charging. According to Sharp, a full recharge takes approximately 90 minutes.

Connectivity options include:

  • Wi-Fi 7
  • Bluetooth 6.0
  • Dual-band GPS
  • USB 3.2 Gen 1
  • DisplayPort 1.4 output via USB-C

Built to Survive Almost Anything

One of the Aquos R11’s standout features is its rugged construction.

The smartphone carries both IP68 and IP69 certifications for water and dust resistance, making it capable of withstanding high-pressure water jets as well as immersion in water. It also meets MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-810H standards for resistance to drops, shocks, temperature extremes, and harsh environmental conditions.

Sharp even states that users can safely clean the device using hand soap or alcohol-based disinfectant wipes—a practical feature for everyday use.

Built for everyday durability, the Aquos R11 combines IP69 water resistance, military-grade protection, and the ability to be cleaned with soap and alcohol wipes.

Unique “Aquarium” Ambient Lighting System

Adding a touch of personality, Sharp has equipped the Aquos R11 with a distinctive rear notification light system called Aquarium.

Beyond traditional notifications, the lighting can create animated ambient effects such as flowing water, flickering fireplaces, and rustling leaves. These visual effects are paired with specially designed soundscapes created by renowned sound designer Shinya Kiyokawa, transforming the smartphone into a miniature ambient entertainment device.

Price and Availability

The Sharp Aquos R11 will be offered in a single configuration featuring 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. Pricing is set at approximately $1,025 USD.

Buyers can choose between three color options:

  • Terracotta
  • Navy Blue
  • Ivory

With its combination of Leica imaging technology, an ultra-bright 240Hz OLED display, flagship performance, and exceptional durability, the Aquos R11 stands out as one of the most unique Android smartphones announced this year.
