The UK-based loudspeaker manufacturer Harbeth debuted a completely new loudspeaker system at the recent High End Audio Fair in Vienna. The system has been named NLE-3 and consists of two passive three-way loudspeakers accompanied by a six-channel Class D amplifier and a preamplifier equipped with extensive DSP. Consequently, each driver has its own amplifier.

According to the manufacturer, the NLE-3 is Harbeth's most advanced loudspeaker to date. It combines the full potential of proprietary RADIAL cone technology with DSP, resulting in a truly exceptional audio experience. Each NLE-3 system comes with meticulously crafted three-way loudspeakers in unique finishes, a Harbeth-designed and manufactured DSP controller, and a six-channel Class D Ncore amplifier meeting Harbeth specifications. The NLE-3 requires only a source and, according to the designers, is a complete, ready-to-use, and advanced audio solution.

The low-resonance speaker cabinets have classic monitor proportions, i.e., 610 x 313 x 424 millimeters (H x W x D), and weigh 40 kilograms each. The speakers are available in various finishes, including walnut, satin black, ivory sand, and midnight blue.
The NLE-3 loudspeakers are equipped with three drivers. A relatively large woofer with a diameter of 300 millimeters handles the low frequencies, while the midrange is handled by a 200-millimeter driver with a cone made of Harbeth's patented RADIAL material mix. According to the manufacturer, this special cone technology guarantees exceptional clarity and detail reproduction in the crucial frequency range.

The high frequencies are reproduced by a ferrofluid-cooled dome tweeter with a diameter of 21 millimeters. The specified frequency range extends from 35 Hz to 20 kHz with a deviation of ±3 dB in an open setup.
Digital signal processing (DSP) enables precise adjustment of the sound characteristics to the listening room. The integrated controller offers the user tools for tone control, bass management, and adjustments to volume, filter slope, and spatial reproduction.
