After years of waiting and the final revision of the\u00a0QMS\u00a0specification as part of HDMI version 2.1a, LG has become the first TV maker to roll out QMS support with the release of compatible C3, G3 and other OLED TVs in 2023.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hifiratings.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/20_techweek.webp\" alt=\"HDMI 2.1 Quick Media Switching (QMS)\" \/><\/p>\n<p>QMS support ensures that the TV and a compatible media player (currently only the Apple TV 4K 3rd generation from 2022) can seamlessly switch frame rates without any intermediate \u201cblack screens,\u201d known as HDMI bonks. This ensures flicker-free playback when viewers switch between movies (24 fps), TV shows (25, 30, 50, or 60 fps), and other types of content. Note that QMS does not eliminate \u201cblack screens\u201d when switching between SDR\/HDR10\/DV content. In the HDMI 2.1a specification, this functionality is called QMS-VRR, as it relies on VRR (variable refresh rate).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hifiratings.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/21_techweek.webp\" alt=\"\u00a0 TV Samsung QD-OLED S95D\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The QMS\u00a0feature\u00a0definitely works on the\u00a0Samsung\u00a0QD\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0OLED\u00a0S95D\u00a0TV . The feature is also rumored to be supported on the 2023 S95C QD-OLED model via a firmware update. Hopefully, Samsung will release a full list of QMS-compatible models soon.
